DIY Nutritional Shakes: How to make a meal replacement smoothie with “real food”

This sweet and savory smoothie recipe is loaded w/ healthy fats, carbs, protein & enzymes — all from organic plant-based sources. A balanced meal …like an Ensure “nutritional shake” only actually nutritious (and tasty!).

Every ingredient I used to make this smoothie in the video below was organic and locally-sourced. The lemon and orange were harvested from trees in the backyard and leafy greens from the self-watering gutter garden on our patio – benefits of the homegrown revolution!

RECIPE: Creamy Green Meal Replacement Smoothie (Vegetarian, Gluten Free)

Fill one 64 ounce Vitamix or other professional quality blender with the following organic ingredients:

3 apple bananas
1/2 lemon (peeled, with seeds)
1/2 orange (peeled)
1 pear
1 cup taro root (steamed)
1 garlic clove (crushed)
1 cup pine nuts
large heap of salad greens
olive oil
4 cups water

On a Vitamix, blend for 45-60 seconds, starting on the lowest VARIABLE speed and working up to HIGH speed until you achieve a smooth consistency.

Makes an average daily supply for one small adult. Best consumed ASAP, but will stay good in the refrigerator for at least 3 days.  Enjoy! ~maria
